Amberley Estate was founded in 1985 with the first vintage release occurring in 1990.
The site for Amberley was chosen after an exhaustive search within the region for a property containing all of the critical ingredients of: sheltered eastern facing slopes, deep free draining gravely loam soils, good water supply. The natural beauty of the estate is a bonus.
Their founding mission was that of producing great wine using the best possible methods. They have now moved one step further from this to an ambitious long term brand mission:
"To be the leader in crafting high quality wines from unique varieties, not commonly found in the Margaret River region".

Arlewood Estate was established in 1988, the original Estate was situated in the Wilyabrup sub region. The winery and business is now operated from Witchcliffe, triggered by a desire to make white wines from a cooler vineyard site. Reds are still sourced from Wilyabrup. A new wine is the La Bratta, a blend of Merlot, Cabernet and Malbec. Consistent premium producer.

Barwick Estates was initially focussed in the Blackwood Valley. Further expansion south of Pemberton and in Margaret River saw the eventual move to Margaret River.
The spread of vineyards has enabled Barwick to grow a number of varieties that suit both the climate and the soil type, resulting in an interesting range of wines. The wine quality and consistency has come a long way.
http://bothbarrelswine.com/
The approach behind the Both Barrels wines is pretty simple – made by Brian Fletcher who states - “My winemaking philosophy has always been simple – work in quality regions with well managed vineyards that produce rich ripe and fully developed fruit flavours...then give it “both barrels” in the winery.”

This outstanding producer is part of the Constellation Wines group and is one of the showpiece vineyards of the district, sourcing fruit only from its own vineyards and other growers within Margaret River.
Viticulture in the estate vineyard has focused on lower yields. Fruit is hand-picked in small batches with the aim of producing the best possible expression of the site and region.
http://www.brownhillestate.com.au/
This small family-run southern Margaret River producer has gone from strength to strength with a range of exceptional quality and value-for-money wines. The vines are all dry-grown and on quite harsh gravelly soils, resulting in small yields. The reds are put into a high percentage of new American and French oak while the whites are left unoaked at this stage. Great value and super wines.
http://www.capelvale.com/
Capel Vale is a pioneer within Western Australia and amongst the first to be established with vines planted in 1974. The initial winery was built on the Stirling Estate in Capel in 1979 followed shortly thereafter with the first vintage in 1980. Peter Pratten was the first to identify viticultural potential in the cool climate regions of W.A. - Margaret River, Pemberton, Mount Barker, and Geographe. As a result, Capel Vale now produces wines of definitive regional flavour and varietal expression with a focus on balance, complexity and elegant fruit flavours. In 1986, Peter Pratten as winemaker produced a Capel Vale Riesling which was named ‘Australian National Dry White Champion’. An historic moment in the history of not only Capel Vale but also Riesling in Australia.
Today Capel Vale is still family owned and managed. From July 2007, Simon Pratten took over as Chief Executive Officer from Peter and Elizabeth Pratten, however both are still heavily involved in the business.
Capel Vale is a fully integrated wine business from vineyard to bottle. It operates one of the most highly certified contract bottling plants in the country.

In the early 1960's detailed climatic studies of various regions in Southwestern Australia revealed that during the winegrowing season, Margaret River's climate was similar to that of Bordeaux, particularly Pomerol.
The conclusion that Margaret River was ideal for viticulture was first tested in Wilyabrup in 1966, when Diana and Kevin Cullen planted a trial acre of vines. The encouraging results led to the couple planting 18 acres of vines on their sheep and cattle farm in 1971. Cullen Wines while remaining family owned has since evolved making quality wine from biodynamically grown grapes sourced exclusively from The Cullen Estate Vineyard and Mangan Vineyard.

Edwards whites have been the strong suite from the outset, but the quality of the red fruit suggests exciting things ahead.
In 1991 Brian Edwards and his wife Jenny looking to a ‘tree change’, purchased some land in WA's wine region of Margaret River. This piece of land was particularly appealing to Brian because he could get an airstrip along the back boundary.
Two years later in 1993, the first vines were planted at Edwards - a modest 6 acres of Semillon. This vineyard rapidly developed and has now grown to 65 acres. Estate grown grapes now include Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon – all varieties perfectly suited to the conditions in the region.
The Perth Royal Wine Show is WA's leading wine competition. Established more than 40 years ago, the competition is credited with putting WA on the map as a producer of quality wines.

Since first vintage in 1996 Hamelin Bay’s wines have been a standard bearer for vineyards located in the south end of the Margaret River Wine Region near the town of Karridale. The cooler climate in this Southern district is very well suited to making excellent white wines with Hamelin Bay having a strong history of success with Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Semillon Sauvignon Blanc blends.
They also produce very fine reds particularly Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz and the secret here is very low yields to ensure full ripeness in the cooler environment.
The winery is owned by Richard and Roslyn Drake-Brockman who both have historical ties to European settlement in Western Australia in the early 19th century. While Richard’s family is better known for pioneering the Swan River Colony (now Perth) he is also descended, via Great Grandmother Grace Bussell, from the first settlers of the Margaret River Region back in 1831.

Not only did he go there with the intention of growing the best of varieties already popular in Australia, but to also experiment with new varieties little known to most wine drinkers.
The finest wines produced from this Three Hills estate come under the Three Hills label and are consistently first rate.

Hay Shed Hill is a classic old vineyard in the heart of the Willyabrup Valley – the premier sub region of Margaret River.

Wines of depth and flavour that are true to region and true to the vineyard.
“This place was planted right. The right varieties on the right slopes with the right soils. And it was planted back in 1973 so we have the advantage of working with truly mature vines…” Michael Kerrigan, winemaker.
With a star-studded career behind him as architect of the classy Howard Park and Madfish brands, Michael Kerrigan has taken on a new challenge at the neighbouring Hay Shed Hill winery. Having spent 13 vintages making the big decisions that triggered unprecedented growth of the Howard Park and Madfish labels, Kerrigan is considered one of the most respected technicians in this super-premium region.
With 30-year-old plantings at his disposal, Kerrigan has understandably set his sights on producing classic “old vine” Margaret River wines. John Fordham – Sunday Telegraph - 23 March 2008

Higher Plane is a family owned vineyard which was established in 1996 with the vision to create handcrafted, precise wines, a genuine expression of their origin.
The vineyard is in the pristine southern Forest Grove sub-region of Margaret River where the influence of the Southern Ocean is the greatest. Undulating hills and valleys with north and south facing slopes, and spring fed watercourses create an ideal environment for site-specific planting of the noble grape varieties.
The property has ideal exposure and gravely duplex soils (and adjoins the Devil's Lair vineyard). The varieties planted were carefully selected clones and closely planted to produce low yields and increase fruit intensity, with defined varietal expression. Close planting helps to achieve more even ripening, especially in area with cooler temperatures and less sunlight hours due to cloud cover.

This founding belief began the journey of Howard Park.
Now over 20 years on, Howard Park remains a family owned winery under the guidance of Jeff and Amy Burch. With a philosophy to produce wines of distinct regional character with an uncompromising commitment to quality Howard Park has forged an international reputation for their wines and an expanded range including single vineyard and multi regional wines from Margaret River and the Great Southern.

Juniper Estate is one of the original Margaret River vineyards nestled in the picturesque Wilyabrup valley. The Juniper family originally owned the land where Juniper Estate is now hence the name. Established in 1973, when there were only five producers in the region, it is one of the pioneer vineyards and is dry-grown to this day.
Two ranges of wines are produced – Estate wines from Juniper’s own vines, and Crossing wines, where fruit is used from a couple of local growers to supplement their own production.
It’s pretty much a hands on operation – the vines are hand pruned and hand picked and the wine hand made. The fruits are processed in small batches and treated separately, evaluated and blended in the barrel hall – a truly boutique operation. The wines are consistently of the highest order with Shiraz and Semillon in particular outstanding.
The Juniper Crossing range is great value.

Bruce and Jeanette Tomlinson established Lenton Brae Estate in 1982. The site of the vineyard was chosen after a chance conversation with Bill Pannell. Bill was the owner of Moss Wood winery and producing wines that were renowned throughout Australia and overseas. Bill had engaged Bruce to assist with the shire of Busselton's planning requirements for dividing the Moss Wood property During a casual chat between the two men, Bill mentioned that the soils of one of the newly created properties were uniformly excellent and equal to those of the existing Moss Wood vineyard. Impressed by this information Bruce decided to purchase the property and try his hand at viticulture. The name Lenton Brae comes from the chapel district of Lenton in Nottingham, England. It is from here that the first Tomlinson's migrated to Australia in 1882. Brae is a Scottish term for a small hill, which is what the Wilyabrup vineyard is situated on.
The winery was built in 1988 and the first vintage in the new building was in 1989. Bruce designed and built the winery, which incorporates the cellar sales gallery that has sweeping views across the Wilyabrup valley. The building has since been heritage listed by the shire of Busselton.

A lone blackboy growing in the middle of the creek is all that was left standing. It still stands, the waters still ravage but they believe they have finally defeated the Mongrel Creek.

Robert Oatley wines are built upon the Mudgee regions most successful varietals: Chardonnay Shiraz Cabernet and Merlot combined with grapes from three premier West Australian wine regions.
Each wine is crafted to display true varietal and regional expression in a modern style, with restrained oak influence, very little sweetness and relatively low alcohol. It’s a style that’s already garnering critical acclaim: “it strikes me as refreshing,” says Wine Spectator’s Harvey Steiman.

In a market increasingly surrounded by an array of emerging brands Rosabrook has longevity which provides credibility with both restaurateurs retailers and consumers alike. Rosabrook’s wine making philosophy under the control of the much lauded winemaker Brian Fletcher is to allow the natural characters of the fruit to drive the wine flavours with minimal winemaking interference. Fruit for the Rosabrook wines is sourced from a number of the Calneggia family vineyards and selected grape growing partners.
Consistently highly rated by wine writers the Rosabrook wines have been receiving accolades both home and overseas for many years.

Were Estate is owned by Gordon and Diane Davies who purchased the property in 1993. The property was the 'home paddocks' of the Karendale Horse Stud. Karendale had been in the Forrest family since 1947 and was used mainly as a horse stud and agistment of brood mares. The vineyard was planted on the property in 1998.
The current owners were enchanted by the charm of the property and the remnants of the horse stud that remained such as the stockyards stables 'strapper's flat' and racetrack. To preserve this charm the 'strappers flat' was converted into the cellar door. The 'strapper' was the young apprentice that looked after the horses in the adjoining stables and the 'flat' was his/her residence.
