1877 Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 2005 ($85)

This is blended from fruit taken from Heathcote, Hilltops and Coonawarra. It is an elegant style wine packed with dark spicy fruits, spices and blackcurrant. There’s a grainy earthiness and plenty of hefty tannins adding some structure. Quite edgy substantial oak. This is a wine for the cellar.

Something a little different from Margaret River. It's just a gorgeous soft fleshy drink with supple tannins, subtle oak and deep inky vibrant fruit flavour. If you don't like this you should take a hike. It’s rustic and earthy and fun with every slurp.

Block 2 Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

May well be the best Cabernet yet from this vineyard. A very powerful and concentrated Cabernet with ripe tannins and ample cedary oak worked into the thick dense fruit. Elegant and poised. It's a wine with great structure and potential to age.

Classic Dry White Margaret River Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2009

A lively and punchy fruit driven blend of these two varieties. The vintage produced fruit that combines delicacy with intensity and this is captured here perfectly. A little splash of lime juice lifts the finish with that sustaining acid a feature.

A special wine showing the strength of Riesling in this region. Lovely toasty citrus aromas with a still zingy lively palate showing some subtle development. Mineral slaty acid is sustained and long. Still has plenty of time ahead of it. Go to the website.

One of the finest Margaret River Cabernets and still only a pup with many years ahead of it. It’s incredibly concentrated with masses of thick unctuous fruit building layer upon layer of structure with ripe firm tannins and substantial oak, in support. A powerhouse with poise.

A gold medal winner at the 2009 Margaret River Wine Show. Elegance and style captured perfectly with the distinctive regional mix of sinewy tannins, length black currant and black olive fruit and some nice savoury French oak. Senses Margaret River Sauvignon Blanc 2009 ($24)

Another superb Sav Blanc from this excellent producer. The wine is half fermented in new and one year old French oak. This results in a wine of complexity and palate texture. This is finer and with a longer more precise palate profile than the previous vintage. Excellent palate depth and intensity while retaining the delicacy of the year.

The Cenosilicaphobic Cat McLaren Vale 2007 ($30)

Another rather intriguing name from the fertile crazy mind of Chester Osborn. The thing is that this is a rather interesting wine made from Cinsault a variety that has been around at d'Arenberg since the late 50s and Sagrantino a more recent addition. It's rustic and intense with wonderful structure and presentation. A dusty dry finish makes for excellent drinking.
