Turkey Flat Barossa Valley
Barossa Valley Grenache 2007 ($25)
In what was a tough year the fruit has been left to fully ripe and hence the alcohol is pretty high. Yet the wine itself is balanced and poised with a soft medium weight generosity. Smell the bed of roses on the nose with some freshly turned earth while on the palate the silky fine tannins and sweet fruit intensity are terrific. Lovely wine.

Boy from the first sniff you get a snoz full of very ripe fruit laced with spices, dried herbs and stacks of plummy black currant richness. The palate is loaded with sweet ripe tongue coating concentrated fruit. The palate has a soft suppleness to complete a nice medium to long term cellaring wine.

Has an almost medicinal aroma with good varietal Cabernet character mingling with some nice smoky oak. Has a juicy ripeness with fine elegance a feature. Has some Merlot and Cabernet Franc components which add a new dimension to the wine. Meaty firm tannins with plenty of fruit weight.

This is simply awesome. It’s a blend of Cabernet Petit Verdot and Malbec. It’s powerful and controlled at the same time with masses of deep concentrated cabernet wrapped up in some exceptional fine grained oak. The tannins are grainy and supple with the fruit displaying great richness and texture. This is a real statement of the Margaret River red at its finest.

An elegant and stylish Cabernet from this cool climate region. Red berry leafiness on the nose with hints of cool spearmint. On the palate the medium bodied fruit gets a helping hand from some ripe firmish tannins and a little oak. Finish is dry and firm. Will be best in another five years.

Opens with a distinctive savoury aroma layering with the briary plummy concentrated fruit. Not as dense and lush as the previous vintage and more in the sinewy zone. Firmish tannins and fine grained oak works together perfectly. Has a slightly sappy finish. The low yield on this difficult drought vintage means that only a small amount will be made.

A really elegant and stylish win from this excellent vintage. There’s oak and fruit wound into a tight concentrated coil to create quite an engine room of grunt.
